Disney & Pixar’s ‘Wall-E’

(There are no spoilers in this review – most everything I talked about happened within the first 5 minutes of the movie or has been alluded to in the previews.) Jason and I don’t see many movies in the theatre so it is unlikely that there will be many movie review posts on my blog (although anticipate the Dark Knight because we’re both comic book nerds). But I have to say that this is a movie you must see in the theatre. In all honesty, I didn’t have high hopes for the movie until I started reading some reviews. The reviews all said, this movie is more than it seems. I would agree. With hardly any dialogue, and the main character being an animated robot, it doesn’t seem like the story would go very far. But the movie had some deep commentary on the future of humanity and its current downfall. Ironically, it had a lot to do with my last post. In ‘Wall-E’s’ world, he is the one remaining operating robot after humanity has fled an overly exploited earth. Wall-E (and his kind) was created to clean up the mess that humans had made. Wall-E = Waste Allocation Load Lifters – Earth Class, so his job all day every day is to compact and stack trash into towers. You quickly learn that this little robot is more than he seems.

Pixar has created an amazing animated story that is not your standard children’s movie. If you bring your child to see this movie, be prepared to discuss the implications of what is presented. In fact, be prepare to brood on the ideas that are presented long after you have walked out of the theatre.

This may be the best movie of the year. Go see it!

Good to hear you thoughts on this one…I wasn’t really sure about it myself after seeing the previews.

I don’t think the previews let on to how deep the movie really was going to be. They all seemed really silly and vapid.
