Things to Do

Things to Do:

  • Watch the Congress Avenue Bats
Depending on the time of year, a visit to the Congress Avenue bridge provides an awesome sight. Each evening, especially in the late summer and early fall, up to 1.5 million Mexican free-tailed bats emerge like a black cloud from the crevices of the bridge that they call home for around 8 months of the year.
Flights normally occur around 8 to 8:30 pm but could be earlier or later. Call the Bat Hotline at 416-5700 ext. 3636 for times. Free
  • First Thursday
    – On the First Thursday of each month shoppers, music lovers, and fun-seekers flock to South Congress Avenue. Merchants along historic South Congress from Live Oak to Riverside stay open til about 10pm on this day. Festivities get underway at 6pm with street vendors, musicians and other street performers, dining, and of course, shopping in the boutiques, specialty stores, and unique shops. It’s also fun to just go do some people-watching. Free.
